Day 42: 2016, 2017 and Resolutions
Happy New Year!!!
Take a moment, please?

Okay, you got out of your “new
year, new me” bullshit?
Good!
Everyone seems to hate 2016. Some
even call it the worst year ever. If you’re on that train, I probably can’t
argue, maybe your 2016 sucks.
But mine didn’t.
It was probably one of the best
years of my life up to now.
I got into the school I wanted to
get into, with a scholarship that really helps me manage the college education
money. I enjoyed times with my friends, and make lasting friendship with some
of them. I graduated from high school (which is probably one of the best thing
that ever happened! Seriously, I cannot relate to those post where people have
reunions less than 3 months from graduation!). I actually went off to college
and experienced such a bigger world. I met people and remained friends with
some of them, without being a disaster socially. I repaired some burnt bridges
and kept contact with important people. I’m one step closer to the future.
And you know what?
I didn’t have a New Year Resolution
this time last year.
The best thing I’ve done this year
was becoming a better person than I was last year.
That’s also the most important
thing you should have done through the last year. If you haven’t, I’m terribly
sorry. I think it’s one of the most crucial traits and goals any human being
should have: the desire to improve and becoming better, because let’s face it,
none of us can really say that our life is perfect and there’s no better.
There’s always room for
improvement.
And if you’re not getting better,
you’re getting worse.
Because life is a strong current
which would wash out anything that doesn’t have the strength and the desire to
fight and swim against it. If you’re not trying to better yourself, you will be
washed out. People will leave and success will refuse to come your way. If you
never show up to work, you won’t be getting many promotions. If you never leave
your couch, you’ll miss the love of your life. If you never learn to listen,
you won’t find yourself with any meaningful friends. If you never try to be
empathetic, you will never see the world differently. If you never try to love,
you won’t see the joy in your life.
And by becoming a better person, I
don’t even mean that you have to take classes and study how much energy is
given of when methane burns (although I certainly recommend that), or how
endangered the cheetah species is under (which I absolutely am passionate
about). But just stop, see where you are as a person, and work on something. It
can be doing math homework, reading a book, writing a journal, hanging out with
a friend, telling your family you love them, letting someone know how much he
or she means to you, or just simply relaxing and working on your mind and
emotion. They all are better than sitting on a couch and watching movies.
So if you can, scratch out all the
New Year Resolutions you have right now.
Just have one.
“Be better than you were yesterday.”
Here’s to another great year.
Best,
Denny
