Day 15: The turtle
"The worst part of holding memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared."
I’m gonna tell you a short story.
I’m gonna tell you a short story.
A baby turtle was born on the beach
in a cold winter night. Rain was heavily pouring down on the landscape as he
opens up his cave and takes his first step toward the sea. Suddenly, a drop of
rain, slight as it is, makes him unstable, and the wind takes its opportunity
to knock him over. He’s upside down, trying to turn back on his belly to crawl
to the sea. He knows that in the morning, he is the target for a delicious
breakfast of various number of predators. He’s desperately trying to escape. He
needs some help.
Luckily, there was a small rat
nearby. The turtle happily celebrates as he thought he is saved from his
inevitable death. However, he realizes that the rat has a broken leg, and it is
limping toward the shore. If the tide rises before the rat can, the rat will
die. He suddenly doesn’t want to call for the rat’s help. Then, a pigeon falls
right next to him. The turtle immediately tries to call out, but he hesitates
again. The bird’s left wing has a slight awkward bent and that’s why it cannot
fly right away. He thinks that his problem is nothing compare to those. So he
didn’t ask for help. The next morning, he saw a snake crawls toward him and in
his mind, that is the end of his short life.
The snake slowly pushes itself
toward the turtle. The turtle closes his eyes and prays for the best. With its
upside down shell, it might be as well as dead. But, amazingly, the snake
charmingly wraps around the turtle and push its body against the bottom of the
turtle’s shell. Seconds later, the turtle finds itself flipped back, with its
feet touching the silky sand underneath. He looks back at the snake as the
snake crawls away. The turtle is confused. He safely makes it to the sea,
wondering if it will ever see its life saver again.
